09:00 - 9:30 am
Mieke De Ketelaere
Not a day goes by without thrilling or terrifying media stories about the consequences of our Artificial Intelligence progress. There is good reason to be energized by the potential, but we're being overwhelmed by hype. As an engineer, I'm an enthusiastic realist when it comes this technology. What motivates me is not the technology, but what it can do to help us to solve problems, in this case complex problems. But let's also be pragmatic: Is AI really going to solve all our problems? During the session, I will give you a quick and accessible introduction to buzzwords such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, etc. We will have a short look at some current practical implications of AI on people's lives and livelihoods. And finally, we will check the potential of Intelligence Amplification, a world where information technology will augment human intelligence. See the conference +

IA, Machine Learning, User Behavior Analysis, Predictive, ... All these keywords currently hit the Cybersecurity professionals on a daily basis. During this session Christophe will give an inside on the current situation regarding these technologies from a practical point of view, but also highlight the opportunities and also the limitations of such technologies. After this session you should be able to define your agenda for the adoption or not of these capabilities in your organization and how. See the conference +

AI has been in the spotlight quite significantly over the last two years. Due to this hype, many companies find themselves wondering how to really leverage these new technological capabilities. We will present a number of concrete use cases of how the Orion AI product has been deployed in customer service environments, its benefits but also potential pitfalls. We’ll also have a look at what is currently technologically possible, but maybe not always feasible market-wise. And we’ll conclude with a glimpse on future AI capabilities. See the conference +

AI is really nothing new: The first AI dates back from the '50. But, today, suddenly, everybody is talking about AI? Why is that so? What's different today from 10 years ago? 10 years ago, we already had chatbots, clever chess programs, etc. We will try to answer these questions. We'll also review some achievement of AI: These are various and impressive: We think about Alphago, Cats vs Dog image classifications, Self-driving cars, etc. During the talk, we'll also talk about how AI is working "under the hood": statistical models versus Mix-Max Search, transparent predictive models versus black box "Deep Learning" models (the technology promoted by Google), etc. What are each technology good for? Why are the uses cases already applicable to our daily life? What are the implications of the emergence of AI for the future of our children? See the conference +

Envision Easy AI for Your Business: Overcoming Obstacles, Accelerating Document-Centric Business Processes and Building an AI-Driven Customer Experience with Practical Applications
11:30 - 12:30 am
Christophe Castan & Luc Cavelier - Contextor
Enterprises from a wide variety of industries - such as insurance, banking, finance transport, energy and retail - are incorporating AI technology into their business strategies to find solutions that traditional technologies can no longer address. Business processes which leverage AI technology are no longer a future vision but are rapidly being implemented in practical use cases. This session shares insight, challenges and best practices from a project which incorporates AI and deep neural network technology to transform business processes for a large insurance company in Belgium. The technology powering this business transformation incorporates machine learning, deep neural networks models, robotic process automation (RPA) and mobile technologies. The presenters will show how AI can move from proof of concept to practical use across a variety of business processes and from focusing on operational efficiencies to realizing a new connected, automated and transparent customer experience. Game Theory is becoming more and more important in AI as we can see for example in the great success of Libratus, a computer who can beet the best poker players in the world. Here we will talk about what is exactly Game Theory, how we use it to study human behaviour, how we use machine learning in Game Thoey, and finally why we need to use Game Theory in AI. Just like you have general purpose clothes for every day use, there also are a wide variety of specialised clothing that are a better fit for certain situations. The same thing is true for Natural Language Processing pipelines. General purpose NLP pipelines are used successfully in a wide variety of applications, but in some use cases domain specific components are required, namely when the text to be processed contains specialised language and an industry-specific vocabulary. Illustrating with several use cases, I will explain in which situations it makes sense to build a custom pipeline.See the conference +

Self-Driving cars. Commercial drones. Smart cameras. Movie and music creation. Powerful & intelligent robots. Over the past few years, a new revolution has brought AI almost to the level of science-fiction. However, most companies are not worried about far-off futuristic applications of AI, they want to know what AI can do - today - for their organisations. Distinguishing the hype from reality can be a bit confusing, especially when you consider the attention that AI gets from the media and commentators. So, how can your organisation get started and put AI to work for you? That is the question I will answer in this talk. From greater customer intimacy, increasing competitive advantage and improving efficiency, I will discuss and show how AI can be used today and help the organisation in more impactful ways. Although most people do not yet fully realize how their lives are already being influenced by self learning systems, it is a fact that AI is everywhere. Not necessarily to do harm of course, but rather to serve society. Industries have always used the importance of safety, robustness and production throughput as an argument against the use of self-learning systems. Although there is a huge amount of data available in these industries, their cautiousness causes the industries to adopt the technology slower compared to the consumer market. In this presentation, we will further demystify the use of self-learning systems by some interesting use cases.

Law & Ethics for AI : Constraint or Competitive Advantage?
1:30 - 2:00 pm
Mona Caroline Chammas - Govern&Law
Legal intelligence plays a key role in ensuring smart investment and responsible innovation. Where A.I. applications lead to societal (r)evolutions and seem ahead of the game, what rules apply? Is law a constraint or an opportunity? "Compliance by Design" becomes the new paradigm: can core legal principles and values be embedded? This talk offers to dissect A.I. with a legal mind and to challenge preconceptions. Case studies will highlight how law & ethics come at play in e.g. algorithms, automation, blockchain and IoT – and why caring about law upfront is a competitive advantage. New challenges arise from A.I. too: they call for enhanced cooperation between lawyers, businesses, techs and governments. Food for thought and for action. See the conference +

Like the wider field of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing (NLP) has seen enormous progress in recent years. Still, for many companies the successful implementation of NLP projects remains a challenge. Even when reliable machine learning approaches exist, the problem often lies in the availability of data or the mismatch between expectations and reality. Through a number of case studies from various sectors, Yves will discuss the reasons for failure or success of NLP projects. Finally, he will give some important guidelines for its successful application in industry. See the conference +
